Bay of Plenty

The western side of the East Coast up to East Cape is aptly named the Bay of Plenty for its abundance of food from the land and sea. Whitebait only adds to the other riches of this region. Around Opotoki a ‘Rahui’ or fishing restriction for three months had been placed by Maori on all the local rivers due to the loss of a fisherman at sea.
